This was indeed a proud moment for the Union when the logo was unveiled on the night of 18th April 2009. There was a roar of approval from our members (70 members) and guest of honors. This great event was mooted by our president himself and the Exco decided to hold it during our Area Committee Dialogue.

This was the Unions first big event of this scale. As such no one had the experience organizing this kind of event. We decided to engage an event master for this, as organizing it could be quite a headache for the union to handle, more so when we have invited several VIPs for this event. What a great event it was with no hitches. Imagine the headache the President and the Secretary had to go thru just to ensure that the event is successful. Before the main event they had to go thru a dress rehearsal, which took them hours to practice. So much so that the president had to pop up some pills to reduce stress. He was so relieved when the event was over and you could see his happiness. Not to mention our Secretary who was nervous as hell as he was given the task to take care of Puan Hamidah.

The VIPs attending includes Puan hamidah Director CIMB Corporate Resources,   Tuan Syed Shahril MTUC President, Mr Chuah Kim Lin Head Human Resources CIMB, our brother unionist from Maybank (AMCO), Muamalat (KEPAK), Sarawak Bank Employee Union (SBEU). All our Area Committee were there and we have also reserved two tables for our members who came to witness the function.

The event started with the opening speech by our President, Bro Sabri Bakee who touched on our relationship with the Bank, history of the Union and the need for the members to get together and ending with a parting note with the statement that the Union will always safe guard the rights of our members.

Next Puan Hamidah gave an insight of her experience with dealing with various Union including her first experience which was with UEC. She was indeed in a jovial mood thanking the Union for inviting her for this occasion. She also touched on the direction of the Bank in moving forward. On her parting note she hoped UEC will work hand in hand in realizing the Bank ambition of being a Universal Bank.

Our MTUC President when on a serious note in tackling the current economic situation and hoped organizations will handle the problem positively without the need to retrench workers as this will burden workers as a whole. On a lighter note Tuan Syed touched on our Collective Agreement in calling the Bank to come up with a good salary adjustment in comparison with the concluded CA of Maybank and HSBC. He suggested a higher adjustment as this will go well the Bank’s universal direction. This remark was well received from the floor with a roar of approvals.

And the main event was naturally the Logo launching with a sound of beating drums and the countdown from the floor, the logo was launched together by Puan Hamidah and Tuan Syed with a push of a launching pad button. It proceeded with the award ceremony to our five long serving members of the Union. The have been with the union from the day it was founded (1988). A slide show was held to commemorate the event starting with the Excos’ and our UEC activities. A nine course dinner was served with the some entertainment  from a local Band going thru some nostalgic songs.

The event ended with a lot of photo session and the main attraction was definitely Puan Hamidah. UEC wish to thank all our members who attended the event and creating a memorable event on our Union Calendar.
