Our induction courses in 2007-2008 were conducted by the Exco and invitations were called to members to attend the meeting but now we have our area committees organizing the whole event with very little involvement from the Exco in terms of organizing. One fine example is the meeting we had with the members in Melaka. The whole event was organized by the Melaka Area Committee and we were quite impressed by their effort.

 We had hi-tea at one of the hotel in Melaka with 28 members from Melaka attending it. We have always had this feeling of uneasiness when meeting is conducted during the weekend where members have other prior arrangements. This was not true as the turnout was encouraging indeed. Melaka Chairman Bro Azlan welcomed the Exco for coming over to meet the members. Introducing us to the members some are not there when we had our first induction course some time back. It was good to see a lot of new faces and they were many happy faces during the meeting.

Bro Azlan had a surprise announcement for the Exco by informing all, that Melaka region had achieved 100% membership. This was indeed great news for us and it was really a big surprise. With all the mergers that we have been through a difficult task was achieved by Melaka region. We sincerely hope other region would reach a similar target set by Melaka region.

Our president in his speech congratulated Melaka for their achievement and proceeded in giving details of ongoing collective agreement with the bank as this is an important topic for our members in Melaka. He has a sense of good feeling on the negotiation and was very hopeful that it can be concluded. But he requested a personal plea to all members to be patient this time around as it might take longer than expected. He announced a special invitation for all members present for a river cruise with the Exco which will be borne by the Union.

Our Secretary Bro Peng Ho touched on the issues brought up by the union to the management as well as matters in regards to Bank’s implementation which affect our staff. He further retreated that the Union is always looking at workers welfare as their core principle in moving forward. He also touched on our up and coming BGM which will be held on 08-08-2009 and hoped to see our Melaka members attending the said function.

Part of the meeting the members is our Group Insurance and our agent Mr. Peter who is ever willing to follow us where ever we go, introduced the group insurance to our members in Melaka. Those who had already purchased it earlier were advised to include their spouses and children plus increase their sum assured for those who are healthy. The respond to this was encouraging.

Members had the opportunity to listen to other Excos’ present. This was a personal request from Bro Azlan. Bro Sivanesan and Bro Zubir touched on matters relating to Collective Agreement as well as BGM

Everyone of use was given a token of appreciation from Melaka members and it is something that we are fond of Melaka (cincalok and Belacan). Finally we experienced the famous river cruise around Melaka town and it was something to remember. If you are visiting Melaka, go for the river cruise and make sure you take the night cruise as the whole area is lighted up and it is worth the trip.
