The effort made by the area committee of Perak, within a short period of time since coming to office is a commendable effort. To be precise, it was only one month ago that they were appointed. The state chairman Arni and secretary Priya manage to group together members as well as non members to attend this meeting. The Exco, wish to thank both of them for their time and effort.

The hi-tea event started at 3.00pm at the Laksamana cheng Ho restaurant and a special room was allotted for the above purpose. The state chairman, Arni, introduced the state area committee to our members in Perak. She thanked the Exco for making an effort to attend this function.

Our president thanked the area committee for organizing this event within a short period of time. He proceeded with the main agenda, the collective agreement negotiation between the Union and the Bank. Most of the details of the negotiation were revealed to the members and requested members to be patient with the outcome of the negotiation as it will take some time since decision can only be obtained once both parties are in agreement. He also touched on issues relating to non members as this has been a torn issue among members.

Next our secretary Bro Peng Ho, informed members not to worry about the delay as the union has received an official letter from the Bank that arrears will be paid from January 2009. He proceeded with the issues related to members, where the Union had resolved with the management. He stressed the importance of being a member and the protection that members are accorded. Despite there being non members the spirit of unity among members are important. The secretary also touched on several matters in relation to collective agreement. 

Our Group insurance agent, Mr. Peter George briefed on the scheme launched by the union. A lot of queries were posted by members, was clarified by our agent. At the end of the session we received many applications from our members. Some increased their existing coverage. We are pleased to know that the awareness among our members is increasing.

It was late in the evening and good to see that many of them stayed right to the end to hear the Exco out, with a lot queries. This is a sign of good thinks to come as members are beginning to voice out their concern and their rights to be heard.

We wish the Area Committee all the best in coordinating and communicating with members in Perak and the Exco hope to see a 100% membership in the near future. It is a daunting task but the Exco believe there are capable of achieving base on the organization of the event.
