Area committee Dialogue was held from 17th till 18th April 2009 at the Bayview Beach Resort, Penang, attended by 50 members (Area Committee + Excos’). It was a very fruitful dialogue indeed. All the area committees gave their inputs and feedbacks to improve matters in relating to Area Committee as well as the Union.
Several issues were raised. This includes the role of the Area committees in mobilizing members to attend our forth coming BGM on the 8th of August 2009. The Exco received positive feedbacks on this matter. The Area committees gave a commitment to arrange members to attend this BGM and making sure that it will be a successful event. The Exco, wish to thank the area committees for their commitments on this matter.
Intense discussion going on during our ACD and the response from our Area Committees were excellent.
The President in his speech announced the good news on the membership drive that was going on for the past one year. The membership stood at 1611 as of March 2009, which is quite an achievement since the last BGM which stood at approximately 750. This is a 100% increase. He further thanked all regions for pushing for a full membership and had a special mention for one or two regions for having almost full membership. This will go down well with the Union and the spirit of unionism.
The Exco also touched on the ongoing Collective Agreement with the Bank and issues pertaining to it. We also received several feedbacks on this matter which will be used as a yardstick for our coming negotiation. The President again reminded the Area Committees not to listen to rumors and only to convey messages given by the negotiation team to members.
The Exco also announced the Unions new logo. In this regards, there will be a logo launching ceremony on the 18th night with VIPs including the Bank representative and the MTUC President. The President reminded the Area Committees to wear smartly for the occasion.
The main agendas were the issues pertaining to area committees’ involvement in the dialogue. We received many feedbacks on this and the event was indeed a fruitful one.
